Alexander Badrow (born October 25, 1973 in Stollberg / Erzgeb. ) Is a German politician ( CDU ) and Lord Mayor of the Hanseatic city of Stralsund .

Career

Badrow attended from 1990 to 1992 the extended high school in his hometown , which he graduated with the Abitur . He then studied civil engineering at the Technical University (TU) Dresden until 1997 .

From 1997 to 2003 he worked as a research assistant at the TU Dresden and received his doctorate in 2000 in the field of "traffic and infrastructure planning". From January 2003 to March 2005 Badrow worked for the city of Frankfurt am Main as a department manager for local public transport and stationary traffic. In March 2005 he became department head for streets and urban greenery in the city administration of the Hanseatic city of Stralsund and, in addition to these two areas, was also responsible for civil engineering, hydraulic engineering and bridge construction and traffic planning.

For the election of the mayor of Stralsund in May 2008, he ran for his party against five competitors, including Karsten Neumann (Die Linke) and Jürgen Suhr ( near-green list “Forum Kommunalpolitik”), and reached 43 in the first ballot on May 18, 2008 , 6% of the votes cast. In the required runoff election against Karsten Neumann on June 1, 2008, Badrow received 58.3% of the votes cast (voter turnout: 37%). Alexander Badrow took up his post as Lord Mayor on October 13, 2008, succeeding Harald Lastovka (CDU), who is retiring for reasons of age . On April 26, 2015, Alexander Badrow was re-elected as Lord Mayor with 65.1% of the vote and a voter turnout of 38.4%.

During his term of office, the sale of the grammar school library of the former Stralsund grammar school from the holdings of the Stralsund City Archives , which became known in October 2012 . In April 2016, the “Übermedien” project by journalist Stefan Niggemeier reported that Alexander Badrow had arranged an interview with a regional TV broadcaster, other media followed the report; the media authority Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania reprimanded the private TV station thereupon.

Political party

In 2007 Badrow joined the CDU.

On April 24, 2009 the members of the CDU district association in Stralsund elected Alexander Badrow as the new district chairman to succeed Jörg Vierkant . He received 83.6 percent of the votes cast.

At the state party conference of the CDU Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania on April 8, 2017, Badrow was unsuccessful with his application for the three deputy posts of the state chairman.
