NGC 98 is a barred spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBbc in the constellation Phoenix in the southern sky . It is an estimated 273 million light years away from the Milky Way and about 130,000 light years in diameter.
The object was discovered on September 6, 1834 by the British astronomer John Herschel .
