NGC 83 is an elliptical galaxy from the Hubble type E0 in the constellation Andromeda. It is an estimated 285 million light years from the Milky Way and about 120,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of the sky are the galaxies NGC 80 , NGC 81 , NGC 85 , IC 1546 , which are probably all gravitationally bound to one another .
The object was discovered on August 17, 1828 by the British astronomer John Herschel .
