NGC 79 is a compact elliptical galaxy of the Hubble type cE / S0 in the constellation Andromeda in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 252 million light-years from the Milky Way and about 45,000 light years in diameter.Together
with NGC 80 , NGC 81 , NGC 84 , NGC 86 , IC 1541 , IC 1548 , PGC 1384 , PGC 1662109, and PGC 1671888 , it forms the NGC 80 group .
The object was discovered on November 14, 1884 by the French astronomer Guillaume Bigourdan .
