NGC 81 is a spiral dwarf galaxy of the Hubble type S in Andromeda in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 281 million light years from the Milky Way and about 15,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 79 , NGC 83 , NGC 85 , NGC 86 .
The object was discovered on November 15, 1873 by the Scottish astronomer Ralph Copeland .
