PJIRC ( Plouf's Java IRC Client , pronounced: P as in Pi , J as in Java , irk as in James T. Kirk ) is a free IRC client that is either integrated as a Java applet on a website , or without a browser using the platform-independent Java Runtime Environment starts.

PJIRC is used on numerous Internet sites and is one of the most widely used IRC applets in Java. The program can be adapted and expanded using numerous plug-ins and JavaScript .

history

PJIRC is developed by the Belgian Philippe Detournay , who with his nickname Plouf was the godfather for the name. The first version was published in 2002. At the time, Pjirc was not intended for large numbers of users, but rather as a "little test" of programming skills. Pjirc gained popularity after which a mailing list was created and development continued as a free software project .

The last version 2.2.1 was released on March 27, 2005 (as of March 2010).
