Pablo Correa Velasquez , also known as Pablo Correa-Velázquez , (born March 14, 1967 in Montevideo ) is a Uruguayan soccer coach and former soccer player .

Career

Player activity

Correa, the meanest of three siblings, was with his family in February 1974 the first residents of the Barrio Aires Puros located Parque Posadas . There he played soccer on the soccer field behind block 10 in his childhood, attended the school in the district and later continued his school education at Liceo 18 . His sporting career began in the club at the age of seven at the Corinto club . Then he went through the youth teams of the Club Nacional . The years 1979 to 1986 have been recorded for his time with the Bolsos . In 1986 he made his professional debut in the ranks of Rentistas . He then worked alternately for Club Atlético Peñarol , Rentistas and Defensor Sporting . In the 1993 Clausura , he played three games in the Primera División for the Argentine club CA San Lorenzo de Almagro . Clausura 1994 and Apertura 1995 he then spent in the ranks of the Montevideo Wanderers . In the second half of the year he made eight appearances (one goal) in Uruguay's top division. In 1995 Correa moved to AS Nancy , where he was the crowd favorite as Tony Cascarino's strike partner . His most successful season was 1997/98 when he contributed a lot to Nancy's rise to Ligue 1 with 14 league goals, but subsequently was rarely used and at the turn of the year 2000/01 declared his retirement from active football and joined Nancy's coaching staff .

Coaching career

He had been the head coach of the then second division team since 2002, as well as sports director of the French first division club AS Nancy since 2007 , but had been a member of the club as a player and assistant coach since 1995. In 2006 and 2007 he was voted French football coach of the year . Correa is praised in part because of its high tactical skill while from others for its very defensive and destructive based game control tactics system is up sharply criticized to five defenders, he was the worst of the terrible coach of Ligue 1 , where the prevention of goals conceded is more important than one's own victory ; away from home a 0-0 goal would always be sought .

When Nancy was relegated to Ligue 2 in November 2002 , Correa replaced the current Palestinian national coach Moussa Bezaz as head of the first team, he managed to stay relegated through a large increase in performance in the second half of the season and even two years later as Ligue 2 champions Promotion to Ligue 1 after six years. In 2006 they won the Coupe de la Ligue .

In the 2007/08 season he was able to play with Nancy for the championship lead until the spring, but fell back to fifth place due to bad luck with injuries in the last quarter of the season. In March 2009, he - already the longest serving coach of the Ligue 1 clubs at the time - offered the presidium of the club in acute danger of relegation his resignation, but this was rejected by the club's top.

In June 2011, Nancy separated from Correa; which followed in January 2012 the offer to succeed Bernard Casoni at the first division promoted FC Évian Thonon Gaillard . After the bad start of the 2012/13 season , he was also released there. At this time, his team occupied 18th place in the table.

On October 12, 2013, his return as head coach of AS Nancy-Lorraine, which was relegated to Ligue 2 in the previous season, was announced. He took over from Patrick Gabriel, who had started the season badly. Correa will work in a coaching team with Vincent Hognon , Arnaud Lesserteur and goalkeeping coach Christophe Miranda and signed a contract until June 2016.

From January 2018 to March 2019 he was AJ Auxerre's trainer.

In the course of his work as a trainer, he also earned the DEPF trainer diploma.
