Jaroslav Fikejz

Jaroslav Fikejz (born April 24, 1927 in Kaliště , † December 26, 2008 in Prague ) was a Czechoslovak athlete who took third place in the long jump at the European Athletics Championships in 1950 .

Fikejz jumped very far as a teenager, and when he died he held the Czech age class record for 15-year-olds with 7.12 meters from 1942. At the Olympic Games in London in 1948 he was eliminated with 6.86 meters in qualification , although in 1948 he had improved the Czechoslovak record to 7.41 meters. Two years later he was in the finals at the European Championships in Brussels in 1950, after he had mastered the qualification as the fifth best jumper with 7.10 meters. In the final, the Icelandic Torfi Bryngeirsson won ahead of the Dutchman Gerard Wessels , two centimeters behind Wessels Fikejz received the bronze medal for 7.20 meters. Four years later, Fikejz reached the final at the 1954 European Championships in Bern and finished tenth with 7.18 meters.

Fikejz was national champion in the years 1948 to 1950 as well as 1952 and 1953. At a height of 1.83 meters, his competition weight was 77 kilograms. After his career, Fikejz worked as a sports journalist and was temporarily involved in the athletics federation of Czechoslovakia.
