John Stuart (actor)
John Stuart (born July 18, 1898 in Edinburgh , Scotland , † October 17, 1979 in London ; actually John Alfred Louden Croall ) was a Scottish actor and a popular leading man in British silent films of the 1920s.
Life
John Stuart made his film debut in 1920. Following successes in silent films such as Maurice Elvey's Hindle Wakes (1927), his first sound film, Victor Savilles Kitty (1929) , also resulted in positive results . Stuart starred alongside Estelle Brody in both films and many others in the late 1920s .
John Stuart worked for the new medium as a child of British television. With advancing age, Stuart switched to the character subject . Stuart played his last cinema role in the film Superman (1978); in the year he died, he was seen in an episode of the British television series Accident . The actor has appeared in more than 180 cinema and television productions.
In 1930 he married fellow actress Muriel Angelus ( The Great McGinty ), whom he had met that same year while filming the romantic comedy No Exit ; the marriage lasted ten years and remained childless.
John Stuart's final resting place is in Brompton Cemetery , London .
