Victor Saville

Victor Saville , born in Victor Salberg , (born September 25, 1895 in Birmingham , England , † May 8, 1979 in London , England) was a British film director , producer and screenwriter .

Life

Saville was the son of an art dealer. When he came out of the First World War wounded , he went into the film business as a sales manager in 1916. In 1923 he produced his first feature film. In 1927 he made his debut as a film director. In 1937 he founded his own film production company under the name Victor Saville Productions and produced three films by Alexander Korda . Saville bought the film rights to Archibald Joseph Cronin's novel The Citadel and sold the rights to MGM on condition that the film be produced for MGM. The success of the film with Robert Donat in the lead gave him the chance to produce another film for MGM with Goodbye, Mr. Chips and again with Robert Donat in the lead role. When World War II broke out in 1939 , Saville stayed in Hollywood for the war years . After the war he produced and directed again in England.
