I'm the Judge is a 1953 detective film based on the novel I, the Jury by Mickey Spillane, starring detective Mike Hammer . Director Harry Essex shot the film as a 3D film with 3-channel stereo sound .

action

Private detective Mike Hammer (Biff Elliott) swears revenge after the murder of his best friend Jack Williams . He suspects the perpetrator among the participants in a party his friend gave shortly before his death, which included boxing promoter George Kalecki (Alan Reed) and psychiatrist Charlotte Manning (Peggy Castle). In the course of the investigation, Hammer falls in love with Charlotte.

He exposes Kalecki as a drug dealer and kills him. During further investigations, Hammer finds out that Charlotte also belongs to the drug ring, wanted to take it over and therefore committed numerous murders. When Hammer confronts her with the results of his investigation, she tries to seduce him. She undresses, hugs Hammer and tries to reach for a hidden pistol. But Hammer gets ahead of her and shoots her.

Remarks

Mickey Spillane's novel "I, the Jury" was the first with detective Mike Hammer. ( Spillane Hammer even portrayed himself once in The Girl Hunters , 1963). In this first film adaptation of a Mike Hammer novel, the leading actor Biff Elliot was viewed as a bad cast. He just looked too youthful and not tough enough.

The novel was made into a film again in 1982 under the title Ich, der Richter by director Richard T. Heffron .

Reviews

"Hard and cynical crime film."
