Biff Elliot (born July 26, 1923 in Lynn , Massachusetts , † August 15, 2012 ; actually Leon Shalek ) was an American film actor .

Life

Elliot, son of an entrepreneur , attended high school in Presque Isle and then began studying at the University of Maine in June 1941 . He interrupted this in February 1943 to take part in the Second World War as a soldier in the 34th US Infantry Division . In the following years he did his military service in Italy and was finally promoted to sergeant . After the war ended, he resumed his studies at the University of Maine, which he graduated in 1949. He then worked as a journalist and writer of short stories and articles for magazines in New York City .

In 1951 he made his acting debut in the episode "Western Night" of the television series Lights Out . In 1953 he played the lead role of "Mike Hammer" in The Judge I Am , the first film adaptation of a Mike Hammer novel by Mickey Spillane, directed by Harry Essex . However, the film fell through with criticism and leading actor Elliot in particular was viewed as a miscast because he just looked too youthful and not tough enough.

In the thirty years that followed, Elliot played supporting roles in over seventy films and television series such as Duell im Atlantik (1957), Grandpa Can't Stop (1971) or Extrablatt (1974).
