Harry Essex

Harry J. Essex (born November 29, 1910 in New York , † February 6, 1997 in Los Angeles ) was an American screenwriter and film director .

Life

Essex first worked as a journalist for the New York newspapers Daily Mirror and Brooklyn Eagle and also wrote short stories. However, he always wanted to work as a screenwriter, but the outbreak of World War II initially dashed his hopes.

After the end of the war, through an acquaintance, he finally came to the film company Columbia Pictures , which at that time was looking for scriptwriters.

Awards

For the screenplay for Jack Arnold's science fiction film Danger from Space he was posthumously awarded the Retro Hugo Award in the category Best Dramatic Presentation (Short Form) in 2004.
