IC 3591 is a bar-spiral galaxy with extensive star formation regions of the Hubble type SBm in the constellation Virgo on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 70 million light years away from the Milky Way and about 30,000 light years in diameter. It is listed as a member of the Virgo galaxy cluster under catalog number VVC 1699 .
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 4570 , NGC 4588 , IC 3521 , IC 3576 .
The object was discovered by Arnold Schwassmann on November 8, 1899 .
