IC 3576 is a spiral galaxy with extensive star formation regions of the Hubble type Sm in the constellation Virgo north of the ecliptic . It is an estimated 45 million light years away from the Milky Way , has a diameter of about 35,000 ly and is listed under catalog number VVC 1678 as part of the Virgo galaxy cluster .
The galaxies NGC 4532 , NGC 4543 , NGC 4588 , IC 3591 are located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered by Arnold Schwassmann on November 8, 1899 .
