IC 3412 is a dwarf galaxy from the Hubble type Irr? in the constellation Virgo in the north star sky . It is estimated to be 30 million light-years from the Milky Way and about 5,000 light-years across. The galaxy is listed as a member of the Virgo galaxy cluster under catalog number VCC 1179 .
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 4442 , IC 793 , IC 3374 , IC 3383 .
The object was discovered by Arnold Schwassmann on February 23, 1900 .
