The Marinedivision Ostsee (MDiv Ostsee) was a major association of the German Navy at the division level .

history

The Baltic Sea Division was set up on January 1, 1967 as part of a reorganization of the German Navy. It emerged from the former Baltic Sea Section Command and was subordinate to the Fleet Command . The staff was in Kiel . The North Sea Marine Division for the North Sea area existed parallel to the MDiv Baltic Sea . In the course of a further reorganization, the MDiv Ostsee was dissolved on April 1, 1975 and part of its tasks were transferred to the newly established Marine Section Command Ostsee (MAKdo Ostsee), which was subordinate to the newly created naval support command. The telecommunication forces were subordinated to the newly created naval command service.

assignment

The naval divisions provided logistical support for the German naval and sea air forces. Their responsibilities were geographically and professionally delimited. Spatially, the MDiv Baltic Sea was responsible for Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein including its North Sea coast but excluding Heligoland , the MDiv North Sea for the federal states of Lower Saxony and Bremen and for Heligoland.

Technically, the central control of the fleet supply of the MDiv Baltic Sea was transferred, while the MDiv North Sea became the superior agency of a number of associations and units, some of which were stationed on the Baltic Sea.

The MDiv Baltic Sea was responsible for cross-sectional logistical tasks for the entire Navy. This included the central control of the material supply for the fleet, including the control of field maintenance and transport.

Both divisions were subordinate to supply facilities in their area, which were divided into two levels. The rear organization was referred to as the depot supply level, while the base supply level served to directly support the fleet. These facilities included depots, transport battalions and base commands.

organization

The staff of the Baltic MDiv disposal in addition to the general staff departments over five special staff departments for logistical cross-cutting issues, including the largest, the Special Staff Logistics Department with 150 soldiers and civilian forces. In an outsourced MB (mechanical reporting) position, an IT system was used for material management for the first time in the Navy . Together with the MB position, the logistics department formed the fleet material control center .
