Otto Dingeldein (Admiral)

Otto Dingeldein (born March 6, 1915 in Reichelsheim (Odenwald) ; † May 11, 1981 ) was a German naval officer , most recently a flotilla admiral of the German Navy .

Life

Otto Dingeldein was the son of the architect Johannes Dingeldein (1877–1951) and Eva Margarethe born Seitz (1885–1953). He joined the Navy and served in the U-Bootwaffe as a lieutenant captain and chief engineer on the U 170 and U 171 submarines during World War II . On January 10, 1944, he received the German Cross in Gold .

After the establishment of the Bundeswehr , Dingeldein was an officer in the German Navy. In October 1969 he was appointed Flotilla Admiral and transferred command of the Baltic Sea Division . He retired in this position on September 30, 1972.
