coat of arms

Blazon : "On golden ground in red under three six-pointed stars standing next to each other, three golden oak trees, in between two golden oak saplings."

This image comes from the 17th century court seal that was found again in 1914. The stars refer to the sovereignty of the Counts of Erbach, the trees should probably symbolize the location of the village in the Odenwald. In 1923 the coat of arms was awarded by the Hessian Minister of the Interior in the tinging recommended by Hupp .

Town twinning

Reichelsheim has partnerships with the French Dol-de-Bretagne Cherrueix since the mid-1990s, and with the Hungarian Nagymányok and the Polish Jablonka since 2010 .

Reichenberg Castle

Reichenberg Castle

Today's Reichenberg Castle was built as Richenburg Castle in the 13th century, first mentioned in a document in 1307. The manor house (Palas) is remarkable. The hall was called the Krumme Bau because of its curved floor plan.

The future natural scientist Christian Gottfried Daniel Nees von Esenbeck was born here on February 14, 1776 . He was a friend of Goethe , co-founder of the University of Bonn and the Bonn Botanical Garden, President of the Leopoldina and Director of the Botanical Garden in Breslau for 40 years , where he died on March 16, 1858.

Until the middle of the 19th century, the castle was in various noble hands. From 1876 to 1924 the complex, now called Reichenberg Castle, was used as a private school for boys of the upper classes. The Siefert family then took over the castle from the Frohnhof. In 1963 she sold some buildings as a vacation home to the Deutsche Bundespost .

In July 1979 the ecumenical community Offensive Young Christians (OJC) bought Reichenberg Castle. She converted it into an (publicly accessible) international meeting and conference center with a castle café. The upper, older part of the castle, the so-called Krumme Bau, is currently being renovated.
