Carl Geist
Carl Friedrich Wilhelm Geist (born December 9, 1870 in Reichelsheim (Odenwald), † November 29, 1931 in Bad Wimpfen ) was a German impressionist painter.
Life
Carl Geist was born in Reichelsheim as the son of the district veterinarian, and in 1871 the family moved to Grünberg. He attended grammar school in Laubach and from 1888 studied at the Karlsruhe Academy under Ferdinand Keller , with a grant from the Grand Ducal Ministry of the Interior in Darmstadt, he interrupted his studies in Karlsruhe and undertook study visits to Munich, Vienna and Italy. In 1900 he exhibited in the Munich Glass Palace . He was still enrolled in Karlsruhe until 1905, but continued his studies from 1898 at the Stuttgart Academy with Robert von Haug . From 1903 he lived in Darmstadt and from 1905 in Grünberg. He often traveled to Frankfurt, Darmstadt and Kassel to visit clients or to sketch in the surrounding area. From 1915 he lived in Wimpfen.
According to him, which is Carl Ghost Road in Grünberg named.
plant
Carl Geist left around 300 works, including 70 paintings and 25 portraits.
The First World War shook him badly. Painter friends like August Macke and Franz Marc had fallen and the interest in painting had generally declined after the war. Since the turn of the century he had turned away from academic painting and preferred an impressionist pastel-colored painting. In the course of his grief, he returned to a very somber academic painting.
