The JaAZ-210 ( Russian ЯАЗ-210 ) was a heavy three-axle truck made by the Soviet manufacturer Jaroslawski Awtomobilny Sawod (Russian Ярославский автомобильный завод, short JaAZ or ЯАЗ). 10,852 copies are said to have been produced.
description
A first prototype was presented in April 1948. It was based on an American Diamond T 980 and was powered by a diesel engine manufactured by GMC . Series production started in 1951 with parts of the smaller JaAZ-200 and a diesel engine from our own production, which was called JaAZ-206. Unlike the JaAZ-214 , the JaAZ-210 did not have all-wheel drive.
The JaAZ-210 was still equipped with a loading area that was largely made of wood. Problems arose with full load in operation because the boards turned out to be too thin and sagged. As a consequence, a revised variant JaAZ-210A with a steel platform was offered. It is approx. 15 centimeters shorter than the original loading area. There were also slight differences of a few centimeters in the other dimensions.
Production of the JaAZ-210 ended in 1958. The JaAZ-219 was introduced as a replacement in 1957 . In the course of the increasing specialization of the Soviet automotive industry, truck production from Yaroslavl was finally outsourced to KrAZ in 1959 . Under the designation KrAZ-219 (later KrAZ-219B and KrAZ-257 ) the truck was produced there visually almost identically for over 35 years until 1995.
Model variants
Different variants of the model were built:
- JaAZ-210 - First basic version with a wooden platform.
- JaAZ-210A - Second, revised basic version with steel platform. The curb weight increased by about 550 kg.
- JaAZ-210D - vehicle variant as a tractor unit.
- JaAZ-210E - dump truck. The MAZ-525 was developed on its basis from 1949 .
- JaAZ-210G - variant with ballast bed. The vehicle was designed to pull trailers with a total weight of 40 tons, with a dead weight of 12,360 kg (without additional ballast). The output of the six-cylinder two-stroke diesel engine was increased to 215 hp (158 kW), and the top speed dropped to 45 km / h at full load. At the same time, fuel consumption rose to an exorbitant 140 l / 100 km.
