The Ja-3 ( Russian Я-3 ) was a truck made by the Soviet manufacturer Jaroslawski Gossudarstwenny Awtomobilny Sawod (later Jaroslawski Awtomobilny Sawod ), which was built in series from 1925 to 1928. He was one of the first truck that at all in the Soviet Union in series was produced.
vehicle description
The truck, which was developed on the basis of the AMO-F-15 and US import models of the White Motor Company , was the first vehicle that was manufactured in the Jaroslawski Gossudarstwenny Awtomobilny Sawod (JaGAZ for short). The plant was later renamed Jaroslawski Avtomobilny Sawod .
The first two prototypes were completed in December 1925, the chief designer was Vladimir W. Danilov. The frame and chassis parts were designed for a payload of five tons, but no suitable engine was available for this load. The built-in engine of the AMO-F-15 only made 35 hp and was therefore too weak. Therefore, the maximum speed was limited by design to around 25 kilometers per hour and the payload to three tons. Due to the short gear ratio, however, the truck performed well even in poor road conditions.
In 1926 a long test drive was made from the plant in Yaroslavl via Moscow , Leningrad and back to the starting point. In the same year, the series production of the vehicles began, which lasted until 1928 and was then replaced by the Ja-4 . For this one fell back on German imported engines with higher performance, with which a larger payload of four tons and a higher top speed were possible. Depending on the source, around 160 to 170 Ja-3 trucks were built.
Yes-3 shows the influence of imported vehicles on Soviet vehicle construction in the 1920s. As is customary in America, the trucks of the American company White were left-hand drive . The first trucks from Soviet production like the AMO-F-15, on the other hand, were right -hand drive . However, this type of construction was completely superseded by the end of the decade.
