The JaG-12 ( Russian ЯГ-12 ) was a truck made by the Soviet manufacturer Jaroslawski Gossudarstwenny Avtomobilny Sawod (later Jaroslawski Awtomobilny Sawod ), in 1932 a single copy of this type was made. It was one of the first trucks in the world with four axles and all-wheel drive (8 × 8). Comparable vehicles were only produced in series in the Soviet Union well after the Second World War.

vehicle description

The production of the truck, which had been developed by a collective of designers from the three-axle JaG-10 , began in November 1932. At that time, some of the technology could not be supplied by the Soviet automotive industry, which is why the engine and gearbox are on Used parts from abroad. The truck was the first four-axle four-wheel drive vehicle made in the Soviet Union.

The two front and rear axles are located together in a bogie that is suspended from the frame. The axes are rigid with respect to each other, but the entire frame is movably supported with respect to the frame. If the truck ran over a bump, none of the wheels were suspended in the air. All axles were leaf-sprung and both front axles were steerable. The latter were designed as De Dion axles . The drive power of the engine was transmitted to all axles via a classic four-speed gearbox and a two-stage transfer case using cardan shafts.

In 1933 the vehicle was subjected to extensive tests. Both the properties in the field and the long-term properties were evaluated on a test drive of approx. 10,000 kilometers in length. When the tests were completed, the vehicle went to Red Army units in Saratov . A series production was considered, but rejected in favor of simpler constructions. Nothing is known about the whereabouts of the JaG-12.
