geography
Geographical location
Heidenrod is located in the western Hintertaunus north of the Taunushauptkamm and west of the Aar , between Koblenz and Wiesbaden , about half way between the Rhine and Lahn . The municipality extends around the high forest area of the Kemeler Heide , which belongs to the ridge on which the federal road 260 known as Bäderstraße runs. The two highest villages of the western Taunus , Kemel (center at 510 m altitude) and Mappershain (center at 500 m altitude) are districts of Heidenrod. The Mappershainer Kopf , about 500 m northwest of the town of the same name, is the highest mountain in the western Hintertaunus at 548 m. Due to the altitude, a large number of streams arise in the municipality, which flow in all directions to the municipality borders and give the Heidenrod a very complex structure of watersheds . Almost every district is in a different valley or alone on a ridge between two valleys.
The source streams of the Wisper , which unite between the districts Wisper and Geroldstein, arise in the municipality to the west of the Kemel district. The Dörsbach rises in the district of Mappershain . About 60% of the municipal area consists of forest.
Neighboring communities
Heidenrod borders in the north on the communities Holzhausen an der Haide , Rettert , Berndroth , Dörsdorf , Eisighofen and Reckenroth (all Rhein-Lahn-Kreis in Rhineland-Palatinate ), in the northeast on the community Aarbergen , in the east on the community Hohenstein , in the southeast to the city of Bad Schwalbach , in the southwest to the community of Schlangenbad and the city of Oestrich-Winkel , in the west to the city of Lorch , as well as the communities of Welterod , Strüth , Weidenbach , Diethardt and Nastätten (all in the Rhein-Lahn district).

Six of the districts have no more than around one hundred inhabitants each.
For each of the previously independent municipalities, a local district with a local advisory board was established. The former community of Dickschied-Geroldstein was divided into two districts and received a local advisory council for each district.
history
Ahead of the municipal reform in Hesse had voluntarily at 31 December 1971, first 16 independent communities to a greater community under the new name Heidenrod together . Martenroth joined on July 1, 1972. The 18th former municipality of Hilgenroth was incorporated into Heidenrod on January 1, 1977 by virtue of state law . Infrastructure and economy
Due to the topography of the municipality, there are eight sewage treatment plants in Heidenrod. There are 18 village community centers , 15 volunteer fire brigades and 16 cemeteries to maintain. The lively club life of the Heidenroder is expressed in the number of 84 clubs. For the Geroldstein district alone, with 90 inhabitants, a new sewage treatment plant had to be built in 2011 by order of the State of Hesse for 2.5 million euros. For this reason and because there are no larger industrial sites in the municipality, Heidenrod is one of the most heavily indebted municipalities in Hesse, the fees for water, sewage and the cemetery fees are higher than in any other Hessian municipality.
traffic
The federal highway 260 crosses the municipality.
Heidenrod belongs to the Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund (RMV). Two bus routes connect the community with Wiesbaden in one direction and Nastätten or Katzenelnbogen in the other direction. A call taxi ensures that most of the smaller districts are connected to local public transport.
The German Limes Cycle Path leads through the Heidenroder districts of Grebenroth, Laufenselden, Huppert and Kemel . This follows the Upper German-Raetian Limes over 818 km from Bad Hönningen on the Rhine to Regensburg on the Danube .
education
There are two primary schools in Heidenrod. The bat school in the district of Laufenselden is attended by primary school students from the districts of Egenroth, Grebenroth, Huppert, Martenroth and Laufenselden, as well as by students from Reckenroth (Rhineland-Palatinate). All other students attend the Kemeler Heide primary school in Kemel.
Secondary schools are located in Aarbergen and Bad Schwalbach.
Companies
Janeco International GmbH in Grebenroth has been producing fortune cookies for the whole world since 1988 , up to 25 million pieces annually. In 2007, Kopp-Umwelt GmbH settled on a former military site in Kemel and turned it into a natural energy park. The company has built two 185-meter-high wind turbines , and it also operates a biomass power plant . In 2013 the company generated up to 40 million kilowatt hours annually from renewable energies and with 85 employees is the largest private employer in Heidenrod.
energy
In Heidenrod there are two wind parks with a total of 17 wind turbines and a biomass power plant. The first turbines, seven Enercon E-40 / 5.40 , were built in the Kemel district at the end of the 1990s, which were replaced from 2012 by five more modern Enercon E-101 turbines with a hub height of 135 meters and a rotor diameter of 101 meters ( repowering ). As a result, the number of turbines in the wind farm decreased, the total output increased by around four times from 3.5 to 15 megawatts. This so-called natural energy park was realized by the company Kopp-Umwelt GmbH and is operated by him.
The second wind farm in the Heidenrode area was planned and implemented after a referendum in January 2012, in which 88.2% of the Heidenrod population voted for the construction of 12 wind turbines. In March 2013, the Heidenrod wind energy company was founded, 49% of which is held by the Heidenrod municipality and 51% by Süwag Energie . The construction work for the park on the Bäderstraße in the forest began in February 2014 with the clearing work, which was followed by the laying of the paths and cable routes in March. The 30 kV electricity is fed in from the Heidenrod wind farm in the nearby Eisighofen substation , which is connected to the RWE subsidiary Westnetz via a 110 kV line . The official groundbreaking for the construction of the wind turbines took place in June by the mayor of the municipality of Heidenrod and the managing directors of the company Windenergie Heidenrod and Süwag GmbH. The wind farm was opened with a ceremony on May 30, 2015, at which the Hessian Minister of Economics Tarek Al-Wazir was also present.
The twelve wind turbines set up on Bäderstrasse in the Heidenrod wind farm are of the type GE 2.5-120 from the manufacturer GE Wind Energy GmbH from the Salzbergen plant . With a hub height of 139 meters and a rotor diameter of 120 meters, they reach a total height of 199 meters. The output of the systems is 2.5 megawatts, the total output of the park is 30 megawatts, with which around 26,000 households can be supplied with electricity. The forecast amount of energy generated per year should be around 91,000 MWh. In the first full year of operation, from April 2015 to March 2016, the systems significantly exceeded their forecast power generation. a. due to technical acceptance after commissioning and shutdowns to protect bats and birds, 97.8 million kWh fed in.
In total, renewable energies in Heidenrod provide more than 140 million kWh of green electricity per year , of which about 70% is accounted for by wind energy . This corresponds to the annual electricity requirements of approx. 26,000 three-person households. This saves around 110,000 tons of carbon dioxide per year ; an amount produced by burning more than 40,000 tons of coal.
