Mappershain is a district of the municipality of Heidenrod in the Rheingau-Taunus district in southern Hesse . Alongside Kemel , Mappershain is the second highest village in the entire western Taunus at 500 meters .

geography

Mappershain is located in the western Hintertaunus , northwest of Kemel in the south of the Kemeler Heide which belongs to the Zorner plateau , on a watershed between the Rhine and the Lahn Kemeler ridge . The Mappershainer Kopf rises 500 meters north-west of the village , at 548 meters the highest mountain in the western Hintertaunus. The source of the Wisper is also only 500 meters away in the east and flows 30 kilometers further south-west at Lorch . The Dörsbach rises in the north of the Mappershain district and , after a distance of 32 kilometers, flows into the Lahn at Arnstein Abbey .

history

Around the year 1260 Mappershain was first mentioned as Meinfrieshain . The name describes the settlement of Meinfried , which is surrounded by a grove .

After the Thirty Years War, the place was depopulated for some time and was only slowly repopulated.

As part of the regional reform in Hesse , the municipality of Mappershain merged with 15 other municipalities on December 31, 1971 on a voluntary basis to form the municipality of Heidenrod . For Mappershain, as for all other districts, a local district with a local advisory board and local council was set up.

Culture and sights

The Upper German-Raetian Limes touches the northern edge of the district.

Mappershain is surrounded by a lot of forest on the Kemeler Heide as well as in the Wispertal and its side valleys. The Limes hiking trail touches the northeast border of the Mappershain district. In addition, the region is part of the Rhein-Taunus Nature Park , which aims to enable people to relax in a natural environment. The spa town of Bad Schwalbach can also be easily reached via the southeastern neighboring town of Kemel .

traffic

The federal highway 260 runs over the ridge of the Kemeler Heide in a north-west-south-east direction , a few hundred meters north of the village. Mappershain is connected via the K 680 as a spur road to this main traffic artery of the western Hintertaunus, via which one arrives north to the road to Laufenselden , the central district of Heidenrod. In a southerly direction one reaches the district town Bad Schwalbach , as well as Wiesbaden and the Rhine-Main area , on the main road past Kemel, which is just under a kilometer away .
