Patrick O'Neal

Patrick O'Neal (born September 26, 1927 in Ocala , Florida , † September 9, 1994 in Manhattan , New York ) was an American theater and film actor .

Life

After serving in the Army Air Corps towards the end of World War II , O'Neal received orders to direct instruction films for the army. After graduating from the University of Florida with a degree in theater studies , he moved to New York and studied acting at the Actor's Studio and the Neighborhood Playhouse . He began his theater career in the early 1950s, where he appeared in the hit play Oh Men! Oh women! Tony Randall's successor . Subsequently, he appeared frequently in guest roles in television series. His dark hair and his cool-looking but handsome appearance enabled him to play characters drawn both positively and negatively. Mainly in the 1960s and 1970s he worked in films, mostly in extensive supporting roles. He had outstanding appearances in the films Alvarez Kelly by Edward Dmytryk and The Castle in the Ardennes by Sydney Pollack . Towards the end of his career, O'Neal worked almost entirely for television.

He was married to Cynthia O'Neal from 1956 until his death from tuberculosis . The couple had three children.
