Grebenroth is a district of the community Heidenrod in the Rheingau-Taunus district in southern Hesse .
geography
Grebenroth is located in the western Hintertaunus , along the Bärbach, north of the Gronau monastery . The Sauerbrunnen is located at the southeast exit in the direction of Egenroth . Martenroth is to the west .
history
Grebenroth was first mentioned in a document around 1250 as Grevenrod .
To the south, between Grebenroth and Egenroth, lies the Altenberg, which is also called Altenburg after the historian Demandt and is said to have been the origin of the Katzenelnbogen family.
After the Thirty Years' War Grebenroth lost its importance as a religious, political and cultural center.
Until 1775 the place belonged to the quadrilateral court on the Einrich (Hessisches Quartier), then came under the sole rule of Hessen-Kassel due to a division ( Nastätter Rezesse ) and was assigned to the Niedergrafschaft Katzenelnbogen . From 1806 to 1813, the region, including Grebenroth, was under French administration ( pays réservé ). In 1816 the place came into the possession of the Duchy of Nassau , which was annexed to the Kingdom of Prussia in 1866 as a result of the so-called German War .
After the First World War , during the Allied occupation of the Rhineland , the town was located in a narrow corridor between the bridgeheads on the right bank of the Rhine between the Americans around Koblenz and the French around Mainz. Until the military occupation by France in 1923, the area existed as a so-called free state bottleneck .
As part of the regional reform in Hesse , Grebenroth merged with 15 other communities on December 31, 1971 on a voluntary basis to form the community of Heidenrod . For Grebenroth, as for all other districts, a local district with a local advisory board and local councilor was set up.
