Algenroth is a district of the Heidenrod municipality in the Rheingau-Taunus district in southern Hesse .

geography

Algenroth is the westernmost district of Heidenrod in the western Hintertaunus . The Rhein-Lahn district in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate borders around 200 meters west of the town . The village consists of about 40 built-up lots. Algenroth is 370 meters above sea level on an agriculturally used ridge between the Morsbach in the south and the Seitzgraben in the north, both of which flow westwards over the state border to the Mühlbach . West of Algenroth, just beyond the national border, the ridge ends in the 375 meter high Algenrother Berg . To the east in the direction of the neighboring town of Zorn , the ridge climbs over the White Stone to the 445 meter high Pfaffenberg . Wooded parts of the district are the slopes facing away from the sun south of Morsbach and Seitzgraben . The highest point of Algenroth is on the southern boundary of the district 460 meters high on the northern slope of the Galgenküppel (495 m).

The closest localities are Weidenbach and Diethardt in the southwest , Münchenroth in the northwest , Niedermeilingen and Obermeilingen in the northeast and Zorn in the southeast.

history

The earliest surviving documentary evidence proves the existence of the place Aldegerod since the year 1297. In the year 1583 6 Hausgesäß (households) were counted. The place was part of the Niedergrafschaft Katzenelnbogen in Hohenstein and came with this as an inheritance to the House of Hesse in 1479 and to the Duchy of Nassau in 1816 , where Algenroth was assigned to the Langen-Schwalbach office . After the annexation of the duchy by Prussia, the place was assigned to the Untertaunuskreis in the Wiesbaden administrative region in 1867 .

In the course of the regional reform in Hesse , the municipality of Algenroth merged with 15 other municipalities on December 31, 1971 on a voluntary basis to form the municipality of Heidenrod . For Algenroth, as for all other districts, a local district with a local advisory board and local councilor was set up.

Culture and sights

The townscape is characterized by the former bakery used as a Protestant chapel , a listed small half-timbered building from 1730, which was built free-standing at the intersection of two local streets. The building has a high, slated roof turret with a double curved hood, which suggests that the bakery, which was converted into a church in 1970-71, was used as a sacred building. This multiple use or change in use of a building can be found particularly in small villages in the region. The restored original bell of the roof ridge is exhibited in the interior. On the north-western edge of the town there is an oak that is around 500 years old and is protected as a natural monument.
