geography

Dickschied is located in the western Hintertaunus . With Hilgenroth and Nauroth it is located on a ridge running in north-south direction in the northeastern Wispertaunus high above the Wispertal in the east and the Herzbach , a right tributary of the Wisper, in the west. Dickschied is the southernmost of the three districts. The place is surrounded by extensive agricultural areas, which are framed by partly steeply sloping wooded valley slopes.

The spatial proximity to the local recreation areas Rheingau and Middle Rhine , to the Loreley , as well as to the Aar and Lahntal on the one hand and to the economically strong Rhine-Main area on the other hand contribute significantly to the residential quality of the district.

history

Dickschied was first mentioned in a document in 1260.

In the 19th century, Dickschied and Geroldstein merged to form the Dickschied-Geroldstein community . While the independence of the municipality is still documented in 1870, the register of municipalities in Germany already lists the double municipality for 1900. On the other hand, according to the historical local lexicon, Dickschied was named together with Geroldstein as early as 1843 and was united with him to form a rural community .

As Dickenschied-Geroldstein on December 31, 1971 ahead of the municipal reform in Hesse with another 15 municipalities on a voluntary basis to the municipality Heidenrod merged , became a separate for each of the two districts local district with town council erected.

Culture and sights

In the village there is a former fortified church that is said to be over 800 years old.

In 1997 Dickschied received a community center, including the 200 square meter Wisperhalle, a fire department wing and a kindergarten with a playground.

In 2015, across from the fortified church, a shelter was built for the more than 100-year-old bus syringe and next to it a small wooden hut that will serve as the center of the village.

Economy and Infrastructure

tourism

The Wispertaunus , in which Dickschied is located, is one of the most densely forested parts of the Taunus and has largely been designated as an FFH area. In addition, the region is part of the Rhein-Taunus Nature Park , which aims to enable people to relax in a natural environment. A well-developed network of hiking trails with benches extends around Nauroth , making it an ideal hiking area.

traffic

Over the ridge on which Dickschied is located, the L 3035 runs in a north-south direction, which leads north via the neighboring towns of Hilgenroth and Nauroth to Kemeler Heide , seven kilometers away , where there is a connection to the B 260 and the road to Laufenselden , the central district of Heidenrod.

To the south, the L 3035 leads curvy down into the Wispertal , follows it a few hundred meters down the valley to the west in the direction of Lorch , but then turns south from the Wisperstraße to the Gladbach valley to reach Kiedrich im Rheingau and Eltville am Rhein via Hausen before the heights . If you turn east from Dickschied in the Wispertal , you can reach the B 260 and the road to the district town of Bad Schwalbach along the Dornbach up the valley either via Ramschied or via Langenseifen . On the federal road one reaches Wiesbaden and the Rhine-Main area in a southerly direction .
