Watzelhain is a district of the Heidenrod municipality in the Rheingau-Taunus district in southern Hesse .

geography

Watzelhain is located south of Kemel on a ridge stretching in a north-south direction, which belongs to the western Aartaunus , high above the Dornbach II in the west, the Dornbach in the south and the Aulbach in the east. The Dornbach leads these waters to the west of the Wisper . The place is surrounded by extensive agricultural areas, which are framed by partly steeply sloping wooded valley slopes. The ridge connects to the Kemeler Heide in the north . Watzelhain lies at an altitude of 440 meters.

history

Watzelhain was first mentioned in a document as Wazilnhagen around 1250 .

As the last honorary mayor of Watzelhain, Georg Klos was the youngest mayor in Hesse in 1965.

In the course of the regional reform in Hesse , the municipality of Watzelhain merged with 15 other municipalities on December 31, 1971 on a voluntary basis to form the municipality of Heidenrod . For Watzelhain, as for all other districts, a local district with a local advisory board and local council was set up.

Culture and sights

The small village has a striking bakery.

Economy and Infrastructure

tourism

The Wispertaunus , on whose northeast border Watzelhain lies, is easy to reach from Watzelhain. This is one of the most densely forested parts of the Taunus and has largely been designated as an FFH area. In addition, the region is part of the Rhein-Taunus Nature Park , which aims to enable people to relax in a natural environment. The spa town of Bad Schwalbach can also be easily reached via the neighboring town of Ramschied to the east .

traffic

Over the ridge on which Watzelhain lies, the K 678 runs in a north-south direction, which joins the L 3455 coming from the neighboring town of Springen to the north in the direction of Kemel . In Kemel, 2.5 kilometers away, there is a connection to the Federal road 260 , which leads north to the road to Laufenselden , the central district of Heidenrod. In a southerly direction one reaches the district town Bad Schwalbach , as well as Wiesbaden and the Rhine-Main area on the federal road .

To the south, the K 678 leads in a one kilometer long brook valley that begins at Watzelhain down to the Wispertalstraße , which, initially at the Dornbach , a left tributary of the Wisper , leads down into the valley to the west via Geroldstein towards Lorch .
