Langschied is a district of the municipality of Heidenrod in the Rheingau-Taunus district in southern Hesse .

geography

The center of Langschied is around 480 meters above sea level on the Kemeler ridge in the western Hintertaunus , which is part of the Rhenish Slate Mountains . The wooded heights surrounding the north represent the watershed between the streams draining north to the Lahn : west of the Klausbach as a tributary of the Mühlbach and east of the Dörsbach as a tributary of the Aar . The small town is located in the trough-shaped head of the valley of the Entelsbach , which rises to around 470 meters and flows a few kilometers further south into the Wisper , which drains into the Rhine .

The K 614 runs through the village and connects with the L 3031 and the B 260 (Bäderstraße), which runs at a distance of one kilometer. About 1.5 km south-east in the direction of Mappershain is the Mappershainer head , at 548  m above sea level. NHN the highest point in the western Hintertaunus.

Neighboring towns are Wisper (south), Nauroth (south-west), Zorn (west), Egenroth (north-west), Laufenselden (north), Huppert (north-east), Mappershain and Kemel (south-east).

history

The place was first mentioned in 1260 as "Langinscheid". Its foundation probably goes back to the Benedictine order, who founded the Gronau monastery a good hundred years earlier in the neighboring western valley . In 1347 it is called "Langenscheit" and in 1520 "Langscheitt". In 1583 the name was documented as "Langenschiedt".

During the Thirty Years War , the place and the neighboring town of Egenroth were deserted by all residents. In 1774 the quadrilateral area was divided into the Nastatter recesses and Langschied came to Hessen-Rotenburg . From 1806 to 1813 the place was then under French administration with the entire Lower County of Katzenelnbogen . In 1816 Langeschied came to the Duchy of Nassau . In 1907 the construction of a water pipeline began, and electricity was introduced in the village at the end of 1922 .
