The Dörsbach is a left tributary of the Lahn in Hesse and Rhineland-Palatinate coming from the Taunus .
Surname
The name Dörsbach probably means something like Durstbach and refers to its water scarcity in the upper and middle reaches, which is due to the fact that the valley is not very deeply cut and therefore does not have a very large water catchment area.
River course
The Dörsbach rises in the western Hintertaunus in the district of Heidenrod - Mappershain at the manor house Erlenhof and flows into the Lahn at the monastery Arnstein in Obernhof . Among other things, it flows through the sub-centers Heidenrod- Laufenselden and Katzenelnbogen . Its upper and middle reaches are shaped by a wide Muldental valley . The lower reaches, on the other hand, is a narrow notch valley with a steep slope towards the receiving water and is also known as the Jammertal . One of the most popular hiking trails in the Hintertaunus from Katzenelnbogen to Obernhof, the Jammertalweg and a section of the Lahnhöhenweg, runs along the Dörsbach .
The water power of the Dörsbach was used by 25 mills. There were other mills in the tributaries. None of them are in operation today.
Trivia
The Jammertal owes its name to a legend: A count from Katzenelnbogen impregnated a miller's daughter on Dörsbach and disappeared. The miller's daughter cried her eyes, was cast out by her parents, succumbed to madness, killed her child and died.
