geography

Beerfurth is located in the Vorderen Odenwald in the southern part of Hesse in the Gersprenz valley . Bundesstrasse 38 , Deutsche Fachwerkstrasse , Bundesstrasse 47 and Nibelungenstrasse meet in the village .

history

The village was first mentioned in 1321 as Berenforte , later the Bernfurt variant appeared . In 1335 and 1336 the lords of Echter and Ungelaube bought the tithe at Beerfurth from the noble servant Rudolf Kilian with the approval of the donor Konrad von Erbach .

To the east of Beerfurth are the ruins of the Beerfurther Schlösschen , which may have been a predecessor of Reichenberg Castle .

From October 10, 1887 to August 1964, Beerfurth was connected to the railway line of the Gersprenz Valley Railway with the Kirch- and Pfaffenbeerfurth train station (route kilometers 14.9) .

Territorial reform

As part of the regional reform in Hesse , the communities of Kirch-Beerfurth and Pfaffen-Beerfurth voluntarily merged on December 1, 1970 to form the new community of Beerfurth. On February 1, 1971, the communities of Bockenrod and Gersprenz were incorporated into Beerfuth . On August 1, 1972, Beerfurth was incorporated into the Reichelsheim community by virtue of state law. Beerfurth, Bockenrod and Gersprenz became districts of Reichelsheim.

Origin of name

The place name is composed of Beer von Eber and furth , a ford through the brook. The name therefore stands for a ford through which pigs were driven. It was in the area of today's Brückenstrasse . The place name was created in 1970 when the two neighboring villages of the same name were merged.
