Summer biathlon European championships 2008

The open summer biathlon European championships 2008 took place from August 13th to 17th in Bansko ( Bulgaria ). The competitions were only held in the sprint, mass start and mixed relay disciplines. With all five possible titles and ten out of 13 possible medals, the representatives of Russia were the most successful. The remaining individual medals and relay silver were won by Czech athletes. The Romanians were only able to secure a medal as the third nation with relay bronze.

The 29 athletes from nine countries started. Two didn't finish the race. The Russians Alexei Katrenko and Dmitri Petin received a 1-minute time penalty according to IBU rule 7.3.b and thus missed medals.

The junior race was won by Remus Faur ahead of Stanislav Bazeev and Maxim Adiew .

There were five relays at the start. Moldova was given two 2-minute penalties in the person of Irina Omelciuc according to IBU rule 7.4.c. The simultaneous mixed race of the juniors took place with ten relays. Here Russia won ahead of Romania and the Czech Republic.
