Summer biathlon European championships 2009

The open summer biathlon European championships 2009 took place from August 12th to 16th in the Czech Nové Město na Moravě in the Vysočina Arena . The competitions were only held in the cross-country discipline and only in the sprint, mass start and mixed relay. With three out of five possible titles and seven out of 13 possible medals, the representatives of Russia were the most successful.

38 athletes from 13 countries started, including three Germans ( Steffen Jabin 14th, Wolfgang Kinzner 16th, Robert Janikulla 22nd). There were no starters from Austria, Switzerland or Italy. In the junior race (55 participants) a Russian triple victory succeeded, Ivan Krijukow ahead of Alexander Saposhnikov and Igor Okhotnikow.

The 30 best athletes from the sprint race started. There were no starters from Austria, Switzerland or Italy. In the junior race (30 participants) Anuzar Yunusov managed an Uzbek victory in front of the Russian Ivan Krijukow and the Romanian Ștefan Gavrilă .

The 25 biathletes started, all of the participants in the sprint were allowed to start. The three Latvians did not compete , the Moldovan Iuliana Tcaciova did not reach the finish. In the junior race (30 participants) the Russian Larisa Nadejewa won ahead of the Romanian Luminița Pișcoran and the Polish Monika Hojnisz .

At the start were eleven of twelve registered relays, the representation of Bosnia-Herzegovina ( Mladena Koroman , Ana Lasica , Mladen Starčevic , Miro Ćosić ) did not compete. The simultaneous mixed race of the juniors took place with ten relays. Here Romania won ahead of Poland and Belarus.
