Mariusz Leja (born August 13, 1987 in Wałbrzych ) is a Polish biathlete .
Mariusz Leja is a student and lives in Czarny Bór . He starts for AZS AE Wrocław and is trained by Jerzy Szyda. He contested his first international races at the junior competitions of the Summer Biathlon World Championships 2007 in Otepää . In the cross-country competitions he competed in the sprint and was 36th in the roller ski races , he finished 34th in the sprint and 32nd in the pursuit. In the 2007/08 season Leja competed regularly in the junior European Biathlon Cup . The end of the junior career for the Pole were the Biathlon European Championships 2008 in Nové Město na Moravě , in which he was 51st in individual, 62nd in fuel and sixth with the relay of Poland.
The transition to the men in the performance area took place at the beginning of the 2008/09 season . Leja contested his first race in the IBU Cup in Obertilliach and was 65th of an individual. He won first points in a sprint in Nové Město na Moravě, which he finished in 37th. So far, Leja achieved his best result in the second highest racing series a little later than 32nd of a sprint in Osrblie . The first international men 's championship was the 2009 European Biathlon Championships in Ufa , where the Pole was 44th in the individual, 26th in the sprint race, 34th in the pursuit and alongside Tomasz Puda , Mirosław Kobus and Piotr Kotas with the Polish relay took 12th place. The following summer Leja took part in the Summer Biathlon European Championships 2009 in Nové Město na Moravě and ran to 30th place in the sprint and 28th place in the mass start race.
Nationally, Leja won the bronze medal in the relay race for his club AZS AE Wrocław at the Polish Championships in Kiry in 2006 with Mirosław Kobus , Krzysztof Pływaczyk and Paweł Lasek . In 2007 he won the silver medal in Jakuszyce with Piotr Kotas , Pływaczyk and Lasek, and in 2009 he won another bronze medal with Kotas, Mateusz Steć and Mateusz Matusik in Wisła .
