Gunnar Raade (born May 6, 1944 ) is a geologist , mineralogist and former first curator of the mineralogical collection of the Natural History Museum of the University of Oslo .

Live and act

Gunnar Raade is considered the most important mineralogist in Norway after World War II. As Norwegian representative in the "Commission on New Minerals, Nomenclature and Classification" (CNMNC) of the International Mineralogical Association (IMA), he was involved in the recognition of more than 2000 new mineral species from 1982 to 2013. In addition to his professional activity, he was also committed to the numerous Norwegian amateur mineralogists. Among other things, he founded the association of "Friends of the Geological Museum" in Oslo.

Together with various specialist colleagues, Raade discovered and described a total of 18 new minerals :

  1. 1970 dypingite
  2. 1975 the Althausit together with Magne Tysseland

Honors

For his contributions to the exploration of the magnesium phosphate it was with the wording of the mineral Raadeit , a basic magnesium - phosphate of the formula Mg 7 (PO 4 ) 2 (OH) 8 , honored. The type locality of the mineral is the quarry Tingelstadtjern near Modum in the province ( fylke ) Buskerud , Norway.
