Roy Kristiansen

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Roy Kristiansen (* 6. October 1943 in Fredrikstad ) is a Norwegian mineral collectors, mycologist , amateur mineralogist and specialist for minerals that beryllium , cesium , gallium , germanium , lithium , rubidium , scandium , tantalum , yttrium and rare earth metals contain . Kristiansen worked as a chemist , supervisor and quality control manager. As a mineralogist, he is self-taught. He lives in Sellebakk , a district of the city of Fredrikstad in the Norwegian province ( Fylke ) Østfold .

Live and act

Kristiansen began collecting Norwegian minerals in 1962. The collaboration with Jens Hysingjord from the Norwegian Geological Service (Norges geologiske undersøkelse, NGU) in Trondheim and Borghild Nilssen from the Mineralogisk-Geologisk Museum in Oslo (now the Naturhistorisk Museum of the University of Oslo ) led him to systematic mineral collection activities. His acquaintance and collaboration with the then geology student Gunnar Raade dates from this time and continued when Raade became the leading expert on Norwegian minerals. Kristiansen and Raade are a prime example of a partnership between amateur and professional mineralogists, the results of which are reflected in numerous publications and the first joint description of several new minerals. Kristiansen is a specialist in the mineralogy of beryllium and scandium deposits (such as the pegmatite "Heftetjern" near Tørdal in Drangedal , Telemark , Norway ) as well as granite and nepheline syenite pegmatites. He discovered more than 30 minerals new to Norway.

Following his initiative, the "Scandium 2003", an international symposium on the mineralogy and geochemistry of scandium, with 22 authors from all over the world and excursions to the area with scandium mineralization in southern Norway, was organized in August 2013.

Kristiansen was involved in the discovery and description of a total of eleven new minerals to date . These include:

  1. 1984 Kaatialait together with Gunnar Raade , Micael H. Mladeck and Victor K. Din
  2. 1986 Zimbabweit together with Eugene Edward Foord , Joseph E. Taggart Jr. , Richard V. Gaines and PLC Grubb
  3. 2006 the Oftedalit together with Mark A. Cooper , Frank C. Hawthorne , Neil A. Ball and Petr Černý
  4. 2010 heftetjernit together with Gunnar Raade, Uwe Kolitsch and Ekkehart Tillmanns
  5. 2012 the Aspeda with Mark A. Cooper, Yassir A. Abdu , Neil A. Ball, Petr Černý and Frank C. Hawthorne
  6. 2013 the Ferrochiavennit together with Joel D. Grice , Henrik Friis , Ralph Rowe , Glenn Poirier , Rune S. Selbekk , Mark A. Cooper and Alf Olav Larsen
  7. 2014 the Agakhanovit- (Y) together with Frank C. Hawthorne, Yassir A. Abdu, Neil A. Ball and Petr Černý
  8. 2016 Ilyukhinit together with Nikita V. Chukanov , Ramiza K. Rastsvetaeva , KA Rozenberg , Sergey M. Aksenov , Igor V. Pekov , Dmitriy I. Belakovsky and Konstantin V. Van
  9. 2017 the Hydroxylgugiait together with Joel D. Grice, Henrik Friis, Ralph Rowe, Mark A. Cooper, Glenn G. Poirier, Panseok Yang and Mark T. Weller
  10. 2018 the Heyerdahlit together with Elena Sokolova, Maxwell C. Day and Frank C. Hawthorne
  11. 2018 Keno plumbo microlite together with Luca Bindi , Daniel Atencio , Marcelo B. Andrade , Paola Bonazzi , Matteo Zoppi and Christopher J. Stanley
  12. Another potentially new mineral is the OH-dominant analogue of gadolinite- (Y) (or the Fe-dominant analogue of Hingganite- (Y)), the structure of which Kristiansen 2017 together with Nikita V. Chukanov, Sergey M. Aksenov, Ramiza K. Rastsvetaeva, Igor V. Pekov, Dmitriy I. Belakovskiy, Konstantin V. Van, Yana V. Bychkova and Sergey N. Britvin.

Another field of activity for Roy Kristiansen is mycology . Since 1978 he has been working with undescribed and unknown mushrooms and in 1979 he joined the “Mycological Society of Fredrikstad”. Over the years Kristiansen has described over 150 new mushroom species for Norway, six of which are worldwide first discoveries. Two of these mushrooms were named in his honor. In 1980 he founded the international mycological journal Agarica (today published by the Norwegian Mycological Society) of which he was the first publisher and editor-in-chief and in which he continues to publish regularly to this day.

A compilation of his publications up to 2017 can be found at www.nags.net.
