Joyce Holden

Joyce Holden (actually Jo Anne Heckert ; born September 1, 1930 in Kansas City , Missouri ) is an American actress .

Life

Joyce Holden was born in Kansas City in 1930. As a teenager, she modeled for a department store and attended the Kansas City Art Institute. During her senior year at school, Holden moved with her family to Los Angeles and graduated from Hollywood High School. She then studied at the University of California and worked as a model. In 1948 Holden won the Miss Southern California contest . The following year she was discovered by a talent agent and named Miss Television . This helped her audition at Universal Studios .

In 1949 Joyce Holden signed a contract with Universal Studios. She made her film debut in 1950 in the comedy The Milkman . Holden received her first major role in 1951 in the sports drama Counted Out . In the following year she played the leading female role in the western rival in the saddle . This was followed by other leading roles in films such as the crime thriller Women in the Night in 1953. After her contract with Universal expired in the same year, Holden's career declined. From then on she worked mainly on television and as a model. In 1958 she ended her acting career after a total of thirteen film roles and more than twenty appearances in television series.

Joyce Holden was married twice. In 1951 she married the songwriter Arnold Stanford, from whom she divorced in 1958. In the same year she married real estate agent David P. Mannhalter, with whom she now lives in California . Holden and her husband are active members of Jehovah's Witnesses .
