Machiel Evert Noordeloos

Machiel Evert Noordeloos (born April 16, 1949 in The Hague ), nickname Chiel, is a Dutch mycologist . Its official botanical author's abbreviation is “ Noordel. ".

Life

Machiel E. Noordeloos studied at the University of Leiden and graduated from there in 1971 his diploma (Kandidaatsexamen). He then worked from 1971 to 1975 at this university with Robert Hegnauer as an assistant in the laboratory for experimental plant systematics, and in 1975 he completed his doctoral thesis ( doctoral examination). After that he led from 1975 to 1981 at the city's Rijksherbarium a Postgraduate studies for Ph.D. The subject of his doctoral thesis was the systematics and distribution of the Rötlinge ( Entoloma , nl: Satijnzwammen) in Europe. Between 1981 and 1987 Noordeloos was a post-doctoral student at the Rijksherbarium with three successive grants from the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research for the Flora agaricina neerlandica project. From 1987 to 1991 he was head of the mycological department of the Plant Protection Office in Wageningen . In 1991 he returned to Leiden, where he has since worked at the National Herbarium of the Netherlands as Senior Researcher and Associate Professor .

Noordeloos is an expert in the taxonomy of mushrooms , especially agaricales and boletales . He is particularly concerned with the species of mushrooms red rot ( Entoloma ), dairy buds ( Lactarius ), pseudo-helmets ( Hemimycena ), bald heads ( Psilocybe ) and Raufussröhrlinge ( Leccinum ). Some of the work resulted in monographs . He is also involved in the Flora agaricina neerlandica project. Noordeloos has been researching outside of Europe since 1975, mainly in North America, Africa, Australia and New Zealand.

From 1994 to 2000 Noordeloos was treasurer of the International Mycological Association . In 2009 he received the Clusius Prize from the Hungarian Mycological Society.

Noordeloos is namesake of the two fungal species noordeloos' Roetling ( Entoloma noordeloosii ) and Entoloma machieli .
