Ștefan Gavrilă (born August 27, 1989 in Azuga , Prahova County ) is a Romanian biathlete .

Ștefan Gavrilă played his first international races from 2007 in the Junior European Cup , later the IBU Cup. The first international championships were the Junior World Championships in 2008 in Ruhpolding , where he finished 72nd in the individual and 67th in the sprint. With Roland Gerbacea and Remus Faur he missed winning a medal in fourth place in the relay race by just one place. At the European Championships in 2008 in Nové Město na Moravě , he again just barely missed winning a medal in singles as fourth. In the sprint he was 66th, in the relay race with Gerbacea, Faur and Cristian Marian Mosoiu eleventh. In 2009 Gavrilă started at three international junior championships. First, the Romanian took part in the Junior World Championships in Canmore , where he was 62nd in the individual, 40th in the sprint, 42nd in the pursuit race and with Gerbacea, Adrian Cojenelu and Faur ninth in the relay. This was followed by the European Championships in Ufa , where Gavrilă was 18th of the individual, 24th of the sprint and 31st of the pursuit and was fifth with the relay in the Junior World Cup line-up. Later in the year he took part in the summer biathlon world championships . In the cross-country races he reached 19th place in the sprint and 22nd in the pursuit, on roller skis he was 41st in the sprint and 36th in the pursuit. With Réka Ferencz , Luminița Pișcoran and Gerbacea, he also won the bronze medal in the mixed relay race. He also won the bronze medal with Ferencz, Diana Mihalache and Gerbacea in the mixed relay race at the Junior European Championships in Otepää . In the individual he was 36th, he did not finish the sprint race. His last junior race Gavrilă denied at the Summer Biathlon World Championships 2010 Duszniki-Zdrój , where he was 16th of the sprint and 23rd in the pursuit race.

Gavrilă competed in his first men's race in 2008 in the IBU Cup, but did not finish his first sprint race in Martell . It was not until 2009 that he finished in Idre as 141 in a sprint and in the following sprint as 94 for the first time achieved a double-digit placement. In Martell, the Romanian won his first points in the second highest racing series as the 35th of an individual in the further course of the 2009/10 season. In 2009 he also contested his first race in the World Cup in Östersund and came in 121st place in the individual and was 89th in the sprint race. It wasn't until 2011/12 that he could improve. In Nové Město he achieved his best result in a pure World Cup race with 73rd place in an individual. His first international men's championships, the 2012 World Championships in Ruhpolding, went even better . In the individual Gavrilă was 83rd, in the sprint race he was able to qualify as 53rd for the first time for the pursuit race in which he held the rank. In the mixed relay race he was also with Éva Tófalvi , Pișcoran and Laurențiu Vamanu 19.
