The International Biathlon Union (IBU) has been organizing regular junior summer biathlon world championships since 1996 . You can run on roller skis or cross-country skiing .

The Junior Summer Biathlon World Championships are held every year together with the Senior Summer Biathlon World Championships in late summer. Unlike the biathlon world championships , they also take place in the years with the Olympic Winter Games .

Competitions

In cross-country skiing, the first junior championships were held in Hochfilzen in 1996 over the sprint and individual distances, since 1997 there has been a sprint, a pursuit and a relay competition, which differ in length from the winter biathlon. In 2007, the roller ski biathletes were also included in the program. While the roller ski competitions have the usual distance for the World Cup of 10 km and 12.5 km for men and 7.5 km and 10 km for women, the cross competitions run over 4 km and 6 km for men , for women, both routes are one kilometer shorter each.

In addition to the individual races, there is also a relay competition, which was initially organized twice, separated by gender. There is now only one mixed relay in roller skis, with two men and two women running. In addition, a mass start was held as a discipline.

Previous Junior World Championships

To date, a total of 14 Junior Summer Biathlon World Championships have been held. 13 junior world champions were determined in the sprint and nine in the pursuit.
