The 9th open Summer Biathlon European Championships 2012 took place from July 25th to 29th in Osrblie , Slovakia . The competitions were held in the cross-country disciplines sprint and pursuit for men and women and in the mixed relay. It was the top event in cross-country biathlon of the year and followed the races of the IBU Summer Cup 2012 .

The most successful nation was Russia with three out of five possible titles. Rinat Gilasow also became the most successful individual participant with three titles. The other two titles went to the Ukrainian Switlana Krikontschuk , who also won another silver medal and was thus the most successful woman. Only German athletes from the DACH area were at the start who achieved some success with bronze from Judith Wagner in the women's sprint and bronze medals for Thordis Arnold in the sprint and pursuit of the juniors and with the junior mixed relay. Wagner's medal was the first senior individual medal won by German athletes since the second edition of the 2005 European Championship .
