Łukasz Szczurek (born April 1, 1988 in Sanok ) is a Polish biathlete .
Łukasz Szczurek, sports soldier from Iwonicz-Zdrój , starts for BKS UP Koscielisko and is trained by Roman Bondaruk. He was a very successful junior athlete. At the 2004 Junior World Championships in Haute-Maurienne , he finished 66th in the sprint, a year later he just barely missed a medal in fourth in the individual. He was also fifth in the sprint and 16th in the pursuit. The juniors' world championships went even better for Poland in 2006 in Presque Isle . After a 12th place in the sprint, he was able to improve to eighth in the pursuit and win the individual silver medal behind the Norwegian Tarjei Bø. In 2007 he won the singles title at the Martell competitions . In summer, Szczurek started at the World Championships in Summer Biathlon 2007 in Otepää . There he was eighth in the sprint in the cross-country competition and sixth in the sprint and tenth in the pursuit in the competition with the rollerskiing. The Junior World Championships 2008 in Ruhpolding did not produce any results worth mentioning . The best result in the European Junior Cup so far is a third place in the sprint, achieved in 2008 in Cesana San Sicario .
In the adults, Szczurek made his debut as part of the Biathlon World Championships in 2008 , when he was used in Östersund in the relay race and was 17th. At the beginning of the 2008/09 season , he made his debut in the IBU Cup as 54th in the Idre sprint, and his first appearance in the Biathlon World Cup followed a little later . In the Östersund singles, the Pole finished 94th. In Vancouver he improved in a sprint race up to 74th place. In Pyeongchang Szczurek was able to take part in the Biathlon World Championships 2009 for the second time and was again only used in the relay race and ran with the representation of Poland in 17th place. In the 2009/2010 season Łukasz Szczurek won points in the World Cup for the first time in individual races in Antholz as 28th. At the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics , he was 59th in the individual and 85th in the sprint.
