Make It Happen (alternative title: Make It Happen - Live Your Dream ) is an American dance film from 2008. Co-scriptwriter was Duane Adler, who has also worked on the films Save the Last Dance and Step Up .

action

The film tells the story of Lauryn Kirk, who dreams of becoming a dancer since she was little.

Lauryn Kirk lives in a small town in Indiana and works for her brother Joel in the auto repair shop, who took it over after her father's death. She leaves her hometown and goes to Chicago , where she wants to take part in an audition at a famous dance school. Her audition, which is very much characterized by hip-hop interludes, is quickly ended and you tell her that you are looking for something more feminine and that she is unsuitable for training at the dance school.

While she is sitting depressed in a restaurant in the evening, her car is towed away. The friendly waitress Dana then invites her to her apartment. She offers her to live with her first, as Lauryn is ashamed to go home and tell her brother that the dance school didn't work out. The next day, Dana invites Lauryn to a club called Ruby's with the message that she might have a job for her. Here Lauryn meets the DJ Russ. Brenda, the club owner, is initially not particularly fond of Lauryn, but eventually offers her a job as an accountant.

One night, Lauryn believes she is the last guest in the club, goes on stage and starts dancing. But she is secretly observed by Russ. The following evening Brenda is desperately looking for a replacement because a dancer has failed. Russ suggests that Lauryn try. Brenda reluctantly agrees. Lauryn's dance doesn't go over well with the audience at first, which is because of the wrong music. After a sign to Russ, he changes the music and Lauryn's subsequent performance is great. This brings her not only general recognition but also the resentment of the club's star dancer, Carmen.

Lauryn and Russ become friends over time and become a couple. One evening when Lauryn was dancing, her brother suddenly appeared in the club and was not particularly impressed with it. Because he still believed that Lauryn would be accepted into the dance school. He informed her that he could no longer keep the family business due to financial difficulties. She turns her back on the club and follows her brother back home to help out in the auto repair shop.

Here Joel witnesses Lauryn's dancing skills one evening and realizes that the workshop is the wrong place for her. He moves her to take part in the second audition. This then returns to Chicago . This time she can convince of her skills and is accepted. Then she goes back to Ruby's to apologize to Brenda for simply missing. Here she is given a surprise party to celebrate the day.

criticism

"Dance film about simple teenage dreams that suffers from moderately choreographed dances and annoying dialogues."
