Judith Wagner lives in Starzach and starts for the local SSV Starzach where she is trained by her father Dieter Wagner . Since 2016 she has been chief commissioner at the criminal police in Baden-Württemberg. Here the Junior World Championships 2006 in Ufa became their most important sporting event. She reached eleventh in the sprint, 13th in the pursuit and was sixth with the mixed relay.
Wagner made her international debut at a major event in the performance sector at the Summer Biathlon European Championships 2007 in Tysovec, where she was fifth in the relay. The following year she started at the 2008 Summer Biathlon World Championships in Haute-Maurienne , where she was ninth in the sprint and tenth in the pursuit race. The performances at the Summer Biathlon European Championships 2009 in Nové Město na Moravě were inconsistent. While she was only 25th in the sprint, she was able to reach eighth place in the mass start.

At the World Championships in Oberhof , Wagner was 18th in the sprint and 13th in the pursuit. At the German Championships in Summer Biathlon 2009, Judith Wagner won all three possible titles with the small bore rifle and also won the relay bronze in the air rifle competition with the team from Württemberg. In June 2009 she was first at the summer biathlon in Clausthal-Zellerfeld in the mass start.

At the Summer Biathlon European Championships 2011 in Martell she came fourth in the individual ranking. At the German Championships 2011 in Bayerisch-Eisenstein , Wagner was the most successful female athlete with four titles. She won the sprint with the air rifle , the small-caliber sprint, the small-caliber mass start and the small-caliber women's relay of the Württemberg Rifle Association. On November 20, 2011, Judith Wagner became German runner-up in cross-country skiing over 6700 m at the 2011 German Cross-Country Championships. At the 2012 Summer Biathlon European Championships in Osrblie , Slovakia , she was tenth in the pursuit over 5 km, in the sprint she won the bronze medal and in the mixed relay she was fifth.

In August 2013 Wagner became European champion in summer biathlon in Haanja ( Estonia ) . This is the first gold medal for Germany since the introduction of the Summer Biathlon European Championships in 2004. She also won the bronze medal in the cross relay and the silver medal in the pursuit race. This makes her the most successful German summer biathlete so far internationally.

At the first ISSF World Championships in the Target Sprint 2017 in Suhl, Wagner and her relay partner Marcel Wagner became vice world champion in the mixed relay. In the individual she came in 6th.
