regulate

The qualification is held as a mass start race in all classes . The number of qualification races / prelims depends on the number of registered starters, the allocation to the different starting groups is decided by lot. A maximum of 12 athletes start simultaneously in a preliminary run. There are three laps of 400 meters each. The shooting process follows after each round, whereby each shot has to be reloaded individually, which is an essential difference to normal biathlon . Standing up, the athlete must hit the target with a diameter of 35 mm five times, with a maximum of 20 shots being fired. If an athlete does not hit all five targets, he has to wait 10 seconds in the penalty box for each mistake before he can go back onto the running track. The twelve fastest of all qualifying races qualify for the final.

The final is also held in a mass start, the rules are the same.
