Sergei Anatoljewitsch Schernow ( Russian Сергей Анатольевич Жернов , English transcription: Sergei Zhernov ; born June 24, 1985 in Koschewnikowo , Tomsk Oblast ) is a Russian summer biathlete specializing in cross-country skiing .

Sergei Schernow first took part in a major biathlon event in Ufa as part of the junior competitions of the 2006 Summer Biathlon World Championships . He finished ninth in the sprint and improved to fifth in the pursuit. At his next participation in a World Cup, the Summer Biathlon World Championships 2009 in Oberhof , the Russian competed in the men's performance area. In the sprint, Schernow took 16th place, in the pursuit he was ninth. The 2009 Summer Biathlon European Championships in Nové Město na Moravě were very successful , in which the Russian narrowly missed a medal in fourth place in the sprint and seventh in the mass start race. At the Summer Biathlon European Championships 2010 in Osrblie he came in tenth in the sprint and nine in the pursuit race. Schernow achieved his greatest success so far at the Summer Biathlon European Championships 2011 in Martell . Behind Sergei Balandin and Alexander Katschanowski he won the bronze medal in a four-fold Russian success in the sprint. He could not quite maintain this position in the pursuit race and fell back to fifth place.
