Sergei Alexandrowitsch Balandin ( Russian Сергей Александрович Баландин ; born  July 11, 1982 in Murmansk ) is a Russian biathlete .

Sergei Balandin made his international debut at the 2002 Junior World Championships in Kontiolahti , where his best result was 12th place in the sprint. A year later, his best results in Forni Avoltri were 19th in singles and pursuit. Balandin was initially more successful in the summer biathlon . Here he won silver medals in pursuit and with the relay at the 2004 World Championships in Osrblie . The first major success in biathlon was winning the gold medal with the relay team around Pavel Rostovzew , Dmitri Yaroshenko and Alexei Boltenko at the European Championships in Novosibirsk . He also finished fifth in the sprint and seventh in pursuit and individual.

For the 2005/06 season Balandin made his debut in the European Biathlon Cup . In his first race, an individual in Obertilliach , he was seventh and immediately placed in the top ten. In 2006 he started again at the world championships in summer biathlon in Ufa and won the sprint, pursuit and mixed relay titles in cross-country competitions. At the Biathlon European Championships 2007 in Bansko, 12th place was individual best placement. The Russian achieved his best result at European level in 2008 at the European Championships in Nové Město , when he won the bronze medal in the individual behind Tomasz Sikora and Michal Šlesingr . With the relay of Russia, he won gold medals in 2005 and 2008.

At the end of the 2008/2009 season, Balandin was used in Khanty-Mansiysk for the first time in the Biathlon World Cup. In the sprint he was 54th, in the pursuit race that followed Sergei Balandin finished 30th and came in the points for the first time. He finished the season in 94th place in the overall World Cup standings. After being unable to achieve success at the highest level for some time, Balandin won all three possible titles in sprint, pursuit and with Olga Prokopjewa , Natalja Solowjowa and Alexander Katschanowski as the final runner in the mixed relay at the 2011 Summer Biathlon European Championships in Martell .
