Patricia Zerfas (born February 27, 1962 ) is an American summer biathlete and long-distance runner .

Patricia Zerfas is a biologist with a Masters degree from the University of Maryland and works at the National Institutes of Health . She starts for the Montgomery County Road Runners . At the Tenth Mountain Ski Club summer biathlon in Fort Kent , she finished fourth in the sprint and pursuit and second in the mass start race. With this she surprisingly qualified in the overall ranking for the Summer Biathlon World Championships 2007 at the advanced age of 44 and became part of the US national team for the first time. At the competitions in Otepää , she finished 27th in the sprint and 22nd in the mass start in the cross-country races. In 2008 she set a new course record at Harvard . At the US Summer Biathlon Championships in 2008 in Whitetail Preserve , she achieved top ten placings three times, in 2009 in Lake Placid she won the bronze medal in the mass start race behind Stephanie Blackstone and Katie Sick . Zerfas finished fifth in the Sprint and Pursuit.

Zerfas started running at the age of 25 as part of a weight loss program and stayed with it. At this time, the athlete from Bethesda also competed in her first and for a long time only race in the summer biathlon. Over time, it became more and more successful. She won the women's competition in the 46th Washington's Birthday Marathon in Greenbelt .
